DUBAI: New Zealand were 243-3 on the opening day of the second Test against Pakistan on Monday.
Tom Latham hit a brilliant 137 for his second Test hundred while Corey Anderson was seven after New Zealand won a crucial toss and opted to bat.
Brendon McCullum was dismissed for 43.
New Zealand, trailing 1-0 in the three-match series, kept an unchanged side despite their 248-run defeat in the first Test in Abu Dhabi.
Pakistan were forced to make three changes with Mohammad Hafeez (hamstring), Ahmed Shehzad (skull fracture) and Imran Khan (rested) replaced by Shan Masood, Taufeeq Umar and Ehsan Adil.
