imageISLAMABAD: Asian Bradman Zaheer Abbas feels players who throw their wicket after scoring lesser runs don't deserve a place in the team saying the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should focus on junior and A team tours to improve the game.

Zaheer Abbas said the team management shouldn't keep that player in the team who continues to throws away his wicket after scoring 20 to 30 runs even if there is no back up.

"Look at the way Sangakarra and Jaywerdene bat, when we used to play cricket, whenever we used to get settled on the crease, it would require the police force to take us away from the wicket," he said while talking to a private news channel.

Zaheer said the present generation of players is too spoilt. "I was their batting coach for 2 series, the things that I told the players should have been taught at grass-roots. In our times there was no concept of batting coach, coach, it was every one for themselves," he said.

Zaheer said unless you have competition for batting spots in the team, there is no incentive for anyone in the team to improve. "The likes of Inzamam, Mohammad Yousaf, Me, Hanif Mohammad, we used to work hard on our weak areas, we would spend hours and hours in the nets practicing."

"Each and every batsman in the team will have to work hard period, you can bring all the coaches in the world but ultimately at the end of the day everyone is a professional and is responsible for his own performance, coaches can only do so much," he said.

Zaheer said he is shocked at the lack of hunger for performances and success in the present generation. "When I used to score three consecutive 50's in 3 test matches during my time, I used to get worried that I will be dropped for the 4th test match. These days one player scores a 50, it becomes a huge sigh of relief and achievement," he said.

Zaheer said unless the PCB starts focusing on the Under-19 team and the A team tours you cannot see things improve as far as the national team is concerned.
