KARACHI: Veteran all-rounders Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq should retire honorably now to make the way for young players, former Test batsman Basit Ali said on Saturday.
It is time for Afridi and Razzak to quit keeping in view their form and fitness, he told APP in an interview.
Everyone watched the ODI and T20 series the way Afridi and Razzaq performed. It is time for them to quit in their own and interest of Pakistan cricket, he commented.
Afridi ended the T20 and ODI series with 79 runs in seven innings and taking eight wickets for 238 runs. Afridi failed to take any wickets in his last four T20 and ODI games.
Similarly Razzaq scored a first ball duck and conceded 14 runs in lone over in Dubai and scored 10 in first T20 after staging a comeback after a year.
He personally felt it was difficult for both Afridi and Razzaq to survive in international cricket.
Both rendered great services to Pakistan cricket. But one-day, they got to think for their country, he said.
Developing and preparing pool of players for the 2015 World Cup should be most important agenda for the PCB, but they are not doing it, he remarked.
Basit revealed that Misbah-ul-Haq was at the verge of ouster but late development forced PCB to appoint him ODI captain.
He expressed his surprise over not including Younis Khan for the ODI series and added that talented batsmen like Harris Sohail and Ali Waqas should have been included in instead of spent forces.
He said PCB Selection Committee should show the grace by resigning after disastrous home series against South Africa.
Basit said Moin Khan should not accepted responsibility as manager. Moin should have joined accepted the role of chief coach or chief selector.
