imageKARACHI: Former Chief Executive of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Arif Ali Khan Abbasi has supported the apointment of Pakistan player as the coach of the national team.

"There is no shortage of former Pakistan cricketers, who can coach better than the foreign coach", he told APP in an interview on Wednesday.

"What Whatmore has achieved for Pakistan team since taking over from Mohsin Khan", he questioned. "I was surprised when Mohsin was replaced with Dav Whatmore after Pakistan team made a clean-sweep in the 3-Test match series against England", he added.

"Why not try Wasim Akram, Aamer Sohail, Rashid Latif, Mohsin Khan, Shoaib Akhtar among the panel of coaches of Pakistan team", senior cricket administrator, remarked.

He said mismanagement and selection committee in the PCB and overlooking deserving players has caused a problems in Pakistan team and disastrous performance in Champions Trophy.

He backed skipper Misbah-ul-Haq because he came out with best show with the bat.

Arif Abbasi however questioned the performance of over- rated Muhammad Hafeez.

"What kind of professor Hafeez is after his dismal show on South Africa tour and in Champions Trophy".

"Why experienced left handed opener Taufeeq Umar out of the team and why team's technically most sound player Asad Shafiq dropped now and then", he commented.

He expressed his surprise why a batsmen is not considered for one-dayer despite good show in Test match.

He said experts were trumpeting that Pakistan bowling was strong. I don't think they performed well including Saeed Ajmal and

Junaid Khan", he asserted.

He called for relying on young guns and grooming them for 2015 World Cup being jointly staged by Australia and New Zealand.

He said he was surprised to see that wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed was punished and dropped after South African tour. except for Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq rest of the team failed Why only Sarfraz was dropped.

"Such acts disheartened the players which affects their performances", he maintained.

He said players can perform without captain giving them confidence. He said Umar Amin is good batmen provided he get chances.

Arif abbasi said without creating conducive condition for young batsmen, they cannot be groomed.

"Pakistan must a good and dependable wicketkeeper and some courageous batsmen", he said. This Pakistan batting is worst-ever in decades.
