imageISLAMABAD: A 10-member Pakistan tennis squad flew to India on Thursday to feature in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG), to be held from Friday in Guwahati and Shillong.

The Pakistani men tennis team also features tennis ace Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and the country's top tennis player Aqeel Khan, while Yasir Khan and Mohammad Abid are two other players.

The four-member women team is comprised of tennis star Sara Mansoor, Sarah Mehboob Khan, Ushna Sohail and Eman Qureshi. Two officials Rashid Malik and Mohammad Khalid Sidique are also accompanying the team.

Talking to APP, regarding the South Asian Games in India, Aisam said it would be for the first time he would feature in these games adding that he was very much excited to represent the country. "We will try our best to return home with a gold medal in the mix doubles category and make our nation proud," he said.

Aisam said he will try his level best to improve his ranking this year. "Currently I am ranked 41st in the rankings but I wish to improve my slot by participating in various international tournaments at Dubai and France," he said.

Talking about the internal hockey affairs, he said the PTF is holding a three-month tennis season in Karachi and Islamabad which will be very useful for the talent hunt of new players.

Around 4500 athletes and sports officials from eight nations - Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka will be participating in the event.
