imagePESHAWAR: Kainat Khan and Fahad Khawjah clinched the trophies of girls and boys after defeating their respective rivals Iqra Rehman and Afsar Ali in the finals of the Anti-Narcotics Force Girls and Boys Table Tennis Championship played here at Qayyum Sports Complex on Thursday.

Former Squash World No.2 Mohib Ullah, Director Media Anti-Narcotic Force Muhammad Amir Khurshid graced the occasion as chief guests. Children, teaching staff and Principal of the Bench Mark School System Zainab Faisal, organizing secretary Kifayat Ullah Orakzai, President KP Snooker and Billiard Association Zulfiqar Ali Butt, Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association Haji Amjad Khan, players, officials and spectators were also present and witnessed the finals.

Kainat faced tough resistance against Iqra Rehman in the marathon five sets battle. Kainat won first two sets by 13-11 and 11-9 but failed to click in the third and fourth sets won by Iqra Rehman, who remained as runners-up in the National Junior Under-16 Table Tennis Championship recently. Iqra Rehmat got two sets by 7-11 and 8-11 and it was the last and decisive set by 11-9.

The two Kainat and Iqra exhibited excellent display with some fine cross-court smashes, forceful smashes and superb serve were largely enjoyed by capacity crowd. Kainat, the currently National Under-16 Champion played well and marched into victory at 3-2.

In the third position match Nirma defeated Anum by 3-1, the score was 9-11, 11-5, 11-5 and 11-8.

Second seed Fahad Khawjah, who also represented Pakistan in the South Asian Table Tennis Championship recently held in Islamabad, upset top seed Afsar Ali by 3-2 in another thrilling final of the boys event.

Fahad Khawjah failed to click in the first two sets won by Afsar Ali by 7-11 and 4-11 but he staged a strong come back and won three consecutive sets by 14-12, 11-9 and 11-9.

Both Fahad and Afsar played well and gave each other a tough fight, specially in the third set. In the third position match Umm Khawjah beat Zahid by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-5 and 11-7. A total of 32 players, both male and female, took part in the Championship. At the end, the guests gave away trophies and cash prizes.

Earlier, the presentation ceremony was started from the Holy Quran by Aziz Ullah, followed with English translation by Eshal Khan of class II.

Laiba Faisal of Bench Mark School System presented a speech on the Anti-Narcotic. The school kids also enthrall a skits on use of drug.
