ISLAMABAD: The Senators from ruling and coalition parties Tuesday lauded the government's people-friendly policies, censuring the opposition for showing immaturity and setting aside the national interest.

The Upper House of the Parliament resumed debate on the presidential address to the joint sitting on March 17, though the opposition walked out of the House demanding the prime minister's resignation after his conviction by the Supreme Court.

Speaking on the motion, Saeed Ghani said presidential address had encompassed all national issues, democratic government's landmark achievements made by evolving national consensus on NFC, constitutional amendments and FATA reforms.

He said despite heavy floods, poor law and order, lack of foreign support, the country's exports, remittances and foreign reserves have increased besides efficient steps for strengthening of agriculture sector.

Ghani also lauded services of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and Benazir Income Support Programme, restoration of sacked employees and fixation of 12 percent share in corporations for their employees.

He criticized the opposition for defaming the prime minister here and abroad when he has left for UK on an official visit asking them to recall its past of maligning the judiciary and non-implementation of court verdicts.

Rafiq Rajwana raised the issue of Supreme Court verdict on prime minister's conviction and asked the government to implement it.

Speaking on point of order, PML-Ns Zafar Ali Shah said the detailed verdict on prime ministers conviction is self-explanatory and that his party could not be part of House's proceedings amidst such situation.

Abdul Nabi Bangash said Layari had been a stronghold of Pakistan Peoples Party but contrarily, the party workers were being killed in the area and the government was keeping mum over it.

He alleged the small provinces were not being given due rights under provincial autonomy as provided by the 18th amendment adding a motion has also been submitted in the House to discuss the issue.

Karim Ahmed Khawaja said despite terror wave in the country, the countrys economy was growing and appreciated the government to making landmark achievements for provincial autonomy and restoration of constitution.

He said President Asif Zardari has shown maturity by taking all coalition parties along in whole policymaking process.

Saeeda Iqbal said congratulated President Asif Ali Zardrai for addressing the joint sitting of Parliament for fifth time, a distinction to be the first elected president of the country.

She said the people of Pakistan were pro-democracy despite the fact that dictatorial regimes had ruled the country most of the time since independence that had made the lives of the people worse. She said the political leadership must observe restraint and all issues being faced by the people including load-shedding and price hike would be resolved amicably which were a big challenge due to economic recession.
