ISLAMABAD: Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid on Monday said that the overall performance of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was good as it had addressed 90 percent complaints.
Winding up debate on the motion moved by Saeed Ghani in the Senate, the minister said that total recovery made by the NAB since its inception was Rs 275 billion.
Zahid Hamid said that there was a need of reforms in the NAB laws for its better functioning.
He said that zero tolerance against corruption was the motto of the present government and there should be accountability of the corrupt.
He said that the bill regarding NAB reforms had been tabled in the National Assembly which was referred to the standing committee concerned.
Earlier speaking on the motion, Saeed Ghani said that the Chairman NAB had extended the contract period of the officials without adopting proper procedure.
Farooq H Naik said that institutions should be strengthened not individuals.
He suggested that a committee of the House should be formed to review the NAB laws and finalise its recommendations for reforms within 15 days.
Javed Abbasi said that it was the need of hour to revisit the NAB ordinance. He said that accountability was the cornerstone of good governance in the country.
