imageKARACHI: Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has said that the role of independent media was pivotal in promotion and sustainability of democracy and democratic norms as it prevents undemocratic acts by raising its voice without any fear.

It can also inform and teach the masses about their rights and responsibilities.

This he said while talking with a 10-member delegation of journalists from various TV channels and newspapers of Bangladesh at Governor House here on Tuesday.

Advisor to Governor Sindh for Media and Higher Education Syed Wajahat Ali and Director General PID Karachi Syed Sikandar Ali Shah were also present on the occasion.

Governor Sindh said that a free and independent media not only pinpoint and identify various problems and issues concerning a society and its inhabitants,it also keeps an eye on acts and endeavours of Government to correct the same, if needed.

Dr .Ebad said that by the rapid propagation of electronic media , specially during last decade a new era of journalism has started which is very fast, speedy and effective.

It broadcast any issue or matter without any delay and through TV screens it reaches millions of viewers in no time and most importantly to those who matter the most, he observed.

Governor Sindh said that it is no hidden fact that journalists of South Asian region and other third world countries have to face immense difficulties in performance of their professional duties.

Many have sacrificed their lives for their cause and other continue their quest to unearth the truth despite all odds, which is very commendable, he said

Governor Sindh said that Sindh is very different with other provinces of Pakistan with regards to both resources and problems while Karachi being the financial hub of the country has a special significance not only for Pakistan but for entire region and its peace is necessary for the peace of the whole area.

After restoration of law and order in Karachi now attention is being given on development portfolio, he added.

Replying to a question about the negative propaganda of involvement of Pakistan in terrorist activities, Governor Sindh said there was no truth in such misleading impression as Pakistan has always fought against terrorism and extremism.

The sacrifices of Pakistan's Armed forces and citizens are ample proof of our resolve in this regard,he opined.

The delegation members included Mizan ur Rehman from daily Manabzamin, Safikul Islam Shamim of ATN Bangla TV, Muhammad Hamid Islam Sarkar of Daily Naya Diaganta, Ms.Jesmin Akter from Banglanews 24.com, Masud Karim from Daily Jugantor, Mostafiz ur Rehman from The Independent, Shamsul Huda from The Observer,Rashed Ahmed from The New Age, Morshed Haseeb Hassan from Channel 24 and Ms.Nafiza Dalwa from Independent TV.
