imageSUKKUR: Minister of State and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon has said that the grant to BISP beneficiaries has been increased from Rs 4500 to Rs 4700 per month by March, 2016.

Speaking at a meeting with BISP beneficiaries and notables here on Sunday, she further said that beneficiaries will also get the difference amount of eight months.

The BISP Chairperson said that the government is striving to make downtrodden segments of the society economically sound, adding that various schemes have been launched to empower women economically.

She said, through this programme, the beneficiaries would send their handicraft work to local office of BISP with the picture and then their work would be displayed on the webpage of BISP. Local handicraft and embroidered products would be showcased in international market to enable women to earn their livelihood in a better manner, she added.

The State Minister said that through this programme beneficiaries could easily earn a handsome amount at their homes online. Marvi Memon said that the present government is committed to address all the issues of women and increase their empowerment, besides focusing on their education and health. She warned that corruption will not be tolerated in BISP.

Under the BISP, she said 5.2 million registered women are being provided financial assistance, adding that the distribution process has been further simplified to avoid any inconvenience to them.

She further said that exceptional performance of BISP team has given new meaning to the life of marginalised sections of the society by following the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in letter and spirit.

She directed the BISP authorities for enhancing the staff strength in Tharparkar to facilitate deserving people.

Addressing the meeting, Director BISP Sukkur Region Zulfiqar Abro said that BISP had been started for the welfare of the poor people and the theme of the programme was to eradicate poverty from the country and to empower women.

He lauded Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for taking very keen interest in the programme and for constant supervision of the programme. He also lauded the services of BISP chairperson Marvi Memon.

BISP Sindh DG Azhar Dahar and other officials of BISP were also present.
