imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has ordered creation of a dedicated force for security of K-IV project so that it could be completed within two years.

"This is most important project and I would not tolerate any delay and snags in its way.", he said while presiding over a meeting of K-IV here at the CM House on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Jam Khan Shoro, Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Additional Chief Secretary Aijaz Ali Khan, Principal Secretary to CM Alamuddin Bullo, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Secretary Local Government Noor Mohammad Leghari, Commissioner Karachi Asif Haider Shah, MD Water Board Misbah and other concerned officers.

The Chief Minister was told that some private people were creating problems in the construction work of the project. This causes unnecessary delay and harassment of the workers.

On this the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to personally coordinate with the Water Board and get them their requirement for security force.

"I would dedicate special force for the project under a DSP," he said and also directed Commissioner Karachi to talk to SSP Malir and Thatta to personally look after the security of the project.

It was pointed out that 5,117 acre government land was required in Thatta for K-IV for which the Commissioner Karachi said that with the approval of the Chief Minister he had provided the required land for the project.

In Karachi 8,225 acre land was required to lay the lines and other construct necessary.

Commissioner Asif Haider Shah said that out of 8,255 acre required land, only 6,218 acre government land is available in the alignment of the project the remaining land belongs to private people.

On this the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to look after the acquisition of private land personally.

It may be noted that total cost of the K-IV project is Rs 25.5 billion and is being launched to provide 650 MGD water to Karachi in three phase.

In the first phase 260 MGD water to be provided from Kinjhar to Karachi and in the second phase another 260 MGD and in the third and final phase 130 MGD water scheme would be launched in 2020.

The meeting was told that soil testing and Environmental Impact Assessment studies have been completed. The Water Board has already awarded one of its works and is going for inviting national and international tenders for remaining works within next 2 months.

The Chief Minister directed the MD Water Board to complete the first phase of the project within 27 months.

"I would not tolerate delay any more. Whatever, process is to be done must be completed within three months and I would personally visit the work on the ground', he added.
