ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking extension in the service of Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan judges.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case and remarked that it was not a matter of basic fundamental right so the court would not accept this petition.
Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that earlier these kinds of applications were filed by common man but now judges have also started to file applications. "If we accept their stance then the Supreme Court judges would say that 65 years retirement age should be finished and no age limit should be fixed for retirement," he added.
During course of proceedings, Advocate Asif Wardag counsel for the petitioners appeared before the bench and stated that judges in Appellate court are appointed for a period of three years but retirement age of the Supreme Court judges is 65 years. He pleaded the court to fix 65 years retirement age for the GB Appellate court judges.
Later, the court dismissed the petition.
