KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to inform it whether any inquiry is under way in NAB or Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The SHC bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, was hearing the petition filed by Memon seeking the court's direction to restrain the NAB from arresting him in relation with an alleged inquiry.
In Thursday's hearing, the special prosecutor of NAB Noor Muhammad Dahyo requested the court to grant him some to file the comments. While accepting the NAB's request, SHC bench directed them to enlighten the court about inquiry, if any, against former minister for information on 14th January 2016.
Earlier, the petitioner submitted that the NAB is trying to implicate him in false cases without any cause, reason and without opportunities for being him heard. He stated that he was never involved in any corruption or misuse of authority.
Sharjeel Inam Memon submitted in the petition that he had received intimidation that he would be taken in illegal custody but actually he is not at fault whatsoever.
PPP leader who is currently living in the United Kingdom submitted that there is considerable defamatory news lively telecasted against him for his possible arrest without specification of allegations. He apprehended that he has credible information that he would be arrested with malafide intentions on any airport of the country soon after his landing.
Citing Chairman and director general of NAB as respondents, Memon prayed to the SHC to restrain NAB from arresting him without the court's permission.
‘Restrain NAB from taking adverse action against me and my liberty. The Bureau is directed to disclose the reason and verify on oath regarding pendency of any inquiry,’ he prayed to the court.
