ISLAMABAD: The Senate Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the government to take initiatives for provision of safe, secure, healthy and harassment free environment to working women in the country.
The resolution was jointly moved by senators including Sitara Ayaz, Samina Abid, Khalida Parveen, Sassui Palijo, Sirajul Haq and Leader of the Opposition Aitzaz Ahsan in connection with the Working Women's Day under relevant articles of the Constitution.
The House, in the resolution, acknowledged that women and men were equal partners and should have the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities.
Appreciating endeavours of working womenfolk contributing in the betterment of socio-economic life of Pakistan, the House showed solidarity with them.
"This House acknowledges, appreciates and encourages the affirmative and effective role performed by women in the Parliament and Parliamentary Secretariats," the resolution said.
The House re-affirmed its continuous support and encouragement to the womenfolk to join the working hands of the country to participate in the economic activities for the betterment of their household as well as national economy.
It deplored in the strongest term that in some sectors women do not receive the salary at par with men for the same job.
The resolution called on the government "to implement proactive policies to encourage women to embrace careers and to promote, through information and awareness-raising campaigns in particular, entry by women into sectors traditionally viewed as male-dominated."
