ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman on Thursday underlined the need for enhancing capacity of the institutions imparting vocational training in various sectors to produce skilled workforce across the country.
During the question-hour, he informed the Senate that presently the training institutes operating in the country has only one per cent capacity to impart vocation training due to certain reasons.
He said the capacity should increased to at least 20 per cent so that the skilled workforce could be produced for different sectors, adding "No certificate is issued to even a butcher without training in Germany."
Presently, the minister said, one Technical Training Centre (TTC) was working under the administrative control of the National Training Bureau (NTB ) operating in the Federal Capital with 43 teaching and non-teaching staff.
As many as 1,863 persons had completed vocational training in 20 different disciplines from the center during last two years.
Baligh-ur-Rehman said two technical institutions Government Polytechnic Institute for Women and National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) were functiong in Islamabad under administration control of the Capital Administration and Development Division.
The Polytechnic Institute , he said, was imparting education in six disciplines including Associate Engineering in Electronics, Associate Engineering in Architecture, Computer and Information Technology, Dress Designing and dress making, Commerce and Office Management from where 134 students completed their training during last two years. The institute has 39 teaching staff and 21 non-teaching staff, he added.
