LAHORE: Pakistan Railways Minister, Khawaja Saad Rafique Monday said train fare was not being increased despite a raise in petroleum prices.
Talking to the media at PR headquarters after a ceremony here on Monday, he said the PR would have to face a loss of 19 per cent due to increase in fuel prices, however, it was decided not to raise fare of trains and the PR would bear this burden.
He said no suggestion of privatisation of the department was under-consideration and there was no need of it now as the department had come out of crisis with efforts of its employees and officers.
He appreciated trade unions for their cooperation in restoration of the PR adding that it was their cooperation which changed its direction from privatisation.
The minister said that time was not far away when employees would enjoy bonuses.
"However, at present, we are unable to give anything special to employees and they will have to accept whatever the government gives to employees in the upcoming budget," he added.
To a question, he said now fare would be fixed according to facilities to be provided in trains and passengers would have to pay for value additions.
He also thanked all political parties for their cooperation in the China-Pak corridor.
