ISLAMABAD: Senator PML-N, Lt. General (R) Abdul Qayyum Khan has stressed the need for Pak-Afghan cooperation in multi-faceted fields as imperative for the peace and prosperity of the region.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said both the states were already hosting around three million afghan refugees for the last three decades.
He said Pakistan has also offered to extend Motorway from Peshawar to Jalalabad and would also allow Afghanistan to use all its routes for trade.
Defence Analyst, Lt. General (R) Amjad Shoaib said Afghanistan realized the efforts of Pakistan for the restoration of peace in the region.
"Both countries should adopt confidence building measures to maintain good relations. Pak-Afghan bilateral relations have improved after the formation of new government in Afghanistan. The visit of Prime Minister will be helpful to remove misunderstandings between both the countries", he added.
Defence Analyst, Air Marshal (R) Shahid Lateef said PM's visit to Afghanistan was a part of the new era of bilateral cooperation between the two states, which began after the formation of new government in Afghanistan.
Ashraf Ghani, the newly elected President of Afghanistan has extended its hand of friendship towards Pakistan and Pakistan's leadership responded positively to it because the two countries have common problems, he added.
Defence Analyst, Dr. Pervaiz Iqbal Cheema said that the visit of Prime Minister to Afghanistan was quite important for peace in the region.
"We need to work with full cooperation to eliminate terrorism from the region, he added.
