imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court Thursday reserved verdict on petitions challenging Competition Commission Act 2010.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard more then 35 petitions filed by various companies against the act.

During the hearing, the petitioners' counsels arguing before the court submitted that after 18th amendment, the federation did not have any authority to do legislation for competition commission.

Now the provinces were empowered to do legislation for the purpose as it was a provincial subject, they added. They pleaded the court to set aside the act.

However, a federal law officer submitted that after 18th amendment, the federation still had authority to do legislation on national level issues. He said that Competition Commission Act was devised to defend rights of the people as it check cartelization. He contended that if the act was set aside, then the cartelization could not be stopped. He pleaded the court to dismiss the petitions.

The court after hearing arguments of all parties reserved verdict on the petitions.
