MIRPUR (AJK): Nomination papers of three out of total 28 candidates for LA-III Mirpur City by-election were rejected by the returning officer Thursday on different grounds Returning Officer Additional District & Sessions Judge Mirpur carried out the srutiny of nomination papers and rejected those of Sajid Pervez Mughal, Raja Iftikhar Ahmed and Sardar Ejaz Nazir for being invalid and incomplete.
According to schedule, appeals against the rejection or acceptance of nomination papers can be filed till February 23, while their hearing will be held on February 24. Nomination papers can be withdrawn by the candidates by 1pm on February 27. Final list of the candidates contesting the elections will be displayed on February 28.
Electoral symbols to the candidates contesting the election will be allotted on March 2, while polling will be held on March 15.
Prominent among the candidates who filed their nomination papers, include PTI AJK Chapter's nominees and former Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry and his son Yasir Sultan, ex City Mayor Chauhdry Mohammad Ashraf, former AJK Minister Arshad Mahmood Ghazi, former FPCCI and former AJKCCI President Ch. Muhammad Saeed and Shujah Haider Lodhi of PML (N), Syed Nishat Hussain Kazmi Advocate of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Nouman Akram of Jamaat e Islami AJK, Qayyum Qamar of Muslim Conference, Ejaz Raza of PPP AJK, Azeem Dutt of Plebiscite Front, Mirza Javed Iqbal of PPP and Muhammad Riaz Inqlabi Advocate of PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) AJK Chapter.
The LA-III Mirpur City seat has fallen vacant after the former Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry resigned from the Assembly seat leaving the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party AJK and joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
