KARACHI: Newly appointed Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Faisal Arab took oath of the office on Tuesday.
The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan administered the oath to senior judge at the lawns of the court. The ceremony was attended by the Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Judges of SHC, other provincial authorities and the lawyers.
The new CJ Faisal Arab while speaking to the media persons said he would resolve the problems facing the judiciary. CJ said about 10 and 220 vacancies of the judicial officers were lying vacant in SHC and the lower judiciary respectively which need to be filled as shortage of the judges causes hindrance in dispensation of the justice. He assured that the judges would be appointed on merit.
He said action would be taken against the judges who are indulged in corrupt practices and bringing disgrace to the institution. CJ said he would introduce a mechanism for swift disposal of the cases and clearing the backlog. He said he did not support the strikes called frequently by the lawyers' associations because they hit the litigants hard.
