ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif Sunday called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here and apprised him of power supply situation in the country in the backdrop of massive shutdown started last night.
He said the system was gradually being brought back to normal as three plants have been connected to the national grid and within few hours the system would be largely restored.
He said the disruption was caused due to three sabotage incidents taking place during last 10 days, two of which during last two nights. Attack taking place on night before last was at a gas pipeline which was restored by the OGDCL promptly in just 13 hours, Khawaja Asif said.
The Prime Minister was informed that breakdown was not caused due to any fault in the transmission system.
The minister informed the Prime Minister that last night transmission lines in Uch were blown up resulting in tripping of Guddu power plant which led the whole system to collapse.
The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Water and Power as well as provincial authorities concerned to complete the restoration work on emergency basis.
He said the government was working to increase power generation in order to reduce loadshedding and steps should be taken by all concerned to ensure that such unfortunate instances were not repeated in future.
