KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that PPP government has taken necessary measures for the improvement of education sector.
This he said while performing the stone lying ceremony of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Cadet College at village Bago Khan Metlo, near Khairpur on Sunday, an official statement said here.
He said that total construction cost of College is Rs 593 million. "It is a gift for the people of Khairpur and adjoining areas by PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari," the CM said.
He said that the PPP government has established 11 new universities for the benefit of the students and elimination of illiteracy.
The Chief Minister said that his government not only increased the education budget but raised the salaries of the teachers and gave them special pay scales. "When PPP came into power around 7000 schools were closed. We appointed teachers on merit and re-opened 5000 closed schools".
Talking about teachers recruitment, he said it was made through reputed and independent institutions to ensure the merit and transparency.
He said Col. (retd) Tanveer Hyder has been appointed as Project Director of the Cadet College construction. "He would be the Principal of the college and under his leadership army officers would be appointed in its teaching faculty.
The Project Director, Col. (retd) Tanveer Hyder giving briefing on the project said that it would be completed in 18 months at a cost of Rs 593 million.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister inaugurated the road from Luqman intersection to Rohri Canal Road which has been repaired and upgraded.
He also laid foundation stone of 3.9 km long overhead bridge to be constructed at a cost Rs 884 million at Hussain Shah bypass roundabout on the National Highway.
