ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Tuesday asked the ministers and members of treasury benches to ensure their presence during the proceedings of the House.
Soon after the session began, Shah pointed out that front line ministers as well as majority of members belonging to the government were not present in the House. "The Parliament should be dealt with seriousness but the attitude of treasury members towards it is not serious which is regrettable," he said.
He said the government members should ensure their presence in the House to discuss the problems being faced by masses. He said when PPP was in power; the attitude of its prime minister, ministers and members towards the House was totally different as they used to attend the NA session regularly.
He said according to the rules the government was bound to ensure quorum in the House. He said members belonging to treasury benches should cancel their other engagements and take out time for the NA session.
"Despite being called friendly opposition, we have been extending support to the government just for the sake of democracy. Now I'm not pointing out quorum but just want reformation", he added.
Khursheed Shah said that parliamentarians were also not being given funds to carry on development projects in their constituencies adding that the government should at least release funds to its own members if it was not releasing these to its allies or opposition members.
He said he was avoiding to point out the absence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members from the House as he wanted them to return to the Parliament.
