imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of the case regarding holding of Local Bodies Elections in the provinces of Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa till December 1.

The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir-Ul-Mulk comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan resumed hearing of the case over different petitions for giving fresh directions to Election Commission of Pakistan as to holding of Local Government elections in the provinces of Sinhd, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

The SC bench directed the KPK government to inform the court till Decebmer 1 whether it can hold local bodies' elections in the province under the biometric system or not. The court also sought report from Sindh and Punjab governments regarding steps taken for holding of municipal elections.

During the course of proceedings, ECP counsel Akram Sheikh told the bench that the Election Commission had submitted detailed report regarding holding of elections in three provinces.

Zahid Yousaf Qureshi Additional Advocate General KPK informed the court that the government is working to hold elections in the province under biometric system. The KPK government will hold LB elections till June 2015 as biometric machines would also required for elections, he added.

On this the Chief Justice remarked that when I was Acting Chief Election Commissioner I was told that in one district of the province KPK elections would be held under biometric system while the rest of the province shall go for elections under conventional system.

He observed that it is too late and as per National Database and registration Authority (NADRA) does not have the record of 11 per cent of thumb impressions which may create difficulties.
