imageISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Wednesday said that flood played havoc in different parts of Punjab, damaging crops and thousands of houses besides affecting livestock.

Talking to a private television channel, he said he has not seen such devastating flood in river Chenab throughout his political career.

All of a sudden, he said, the river roared and washed away crops standing on millions of acres and rendered thousands shelterless.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister said, visited various flood affected areas and announced relief packages for the flood victims.

Under the package, Shahbaz Sharif said, Rs 25,000 would be given to each flood affected family.

He said the Federal and Punjab governments, Army, Navy, police and Rescue-1122 were playing a pivotal role in rescue and evacuation marooned and bring them to safer places.

He said rescue works have been completed in various parts of flood hit areas and now relief and rehabilitation activities were underway there in an efficient manner.

Shahbaz Sharif said the government would ensure extending maximum assistance to the flood affected people before this Eid-ul- Azha, adding that he would spend the religious festivity with them.

Replying to a question, the Chief Minister said efforts were on to bring such a technology in the country, having capacity to timely forecast floods and other natural calamities.

To another question, he said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) sit-ins have badly affected the country's economy, adding that the nation would not forgive them for the irreparable dent to the national economy.

Shahbaz Sharif said Chaudhry brothers, who looted the Punjab Bank by waving off their own and aides' loans during their tenure, were financing the marches and sit-ins.

The CM revealed that 'Azadi and Inqalab' marches were part of the London plan and the conspiracy hatched to cancel the scheduled visit of the Chinese President.
