KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Information and Local Government Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon has decided to evolve a mechanism to rid Local Bodies and Water Boards of ghost employees by changing the procedure of payment of salaries.
Presiding over a meeting of Local Government, its attached and subordinate departments, here on Thursday, the minister said that Sindh cabinet has already decided to remove ghost employees from the payroll of all the departments.
In the first phase the local government minister has given two months time to all the employees to get smart cards from NADRA for payment of their salaries and in the second phase salaries may be released through AG Sindh for which work was in progress.
He asked the Secretary Local Government to direct employees of all local bodies, including water boards to obtain their smart cards from NADRA within two months, in case of failure salaries would be stopped forthwith.
Sharjeel Memon also directed Secretary Local Government Sajad Abbasi to hold a joint meeting with Secretary Finance and Accountant General of Sindh to explore ways and means to bring local body employees in the fold of AG Sindh. "Like other departments I want AG Sindh should also release pay, pension and gratuity of local body employees". This is the only way to trace out ghost employees, he added.
He has also decided to computerize record of all the local bodies employees for which a special cell will be set up in the local government department.
