MUZAFFARGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday the government would compensate for losses caused by heavy floods and all available resources were being utilized.
"We are making sincere efforts to rehabilitate displaced families as the Punjab government has already released Rs 2 billion for their rehabilitation," he said while talking to flood-affected people during his visit to flood-hit areas of Muzaffargarh where he also reviewed rescue and relief activities.
He said the government was fully aware of the plight of displaced families and spared no efforts to rehabilitate them at the earliest. He observed that it was the worst flood that had inflicted colossal losses on property and infrastructure. However, he said, a gigantic rescue and relief operation was successfully carried out in flood-hit areas of the province.
The chief minister paid glowing tributes to army jawans, Rescue-1122 and police officials for helping flood-hit families. He said hundreds of thousands of people were facing displacement owing to devastating floods while elements staging sit-ins were busy in celebrations. He deplored the PTI was the only party that was not taking part in relief activities.
The chief minister directed the local administration to ensure the provision of food in relief camps, adding that the availability of adequate quantity of medicines should also be provided at the camps.
