WASHINGTON: Awami National Party Senator Shahi Sayed has said Parliament is the only constitutional platform to enact reforms in the electoral process and that protests cannot achieve that objective.
Sayed, who is in the United States for a private visit, said his party favours electoral reforms but opposes moves like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's planned protests on the Independence Day as the ANP believes in continuation of the democratic system.
"The PTI can introduce amendments to the constitution for election reforms in the Parliament", he opined, speaking at an event organized by The Commongrounds, an organization dedicated to fostering understanding between societies.
The senator, who is president of ANP Sindh chapter, also stressed the importance of demonstration of tolerance in national affairs and respect for all constitutional institutions as offering the way out of problems facing the country.
Dr. Zulfiqar Kazmi, head of The Commongrounds, introduced Senator Shahi and highlighted his insightful participation in national politics, while Rana Saadat, a Pakistani-American community activist, thanked the lawmaker for his appearance at the event.
