imageISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Usman Abrahim on Friday informed the National Assembly that a committee has been formed to verify the degrees of teachers working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) within two months.

Replying during "Question Hour" in the Lower House, the minister said that process had already started and so far degrees of 33 teachers out of 3,979 had been verified.

"Verification process is taking time due to non-availability of funds" Usman Abrahim added.

He said that standard of education in Federal Government schools had considerably improved and the government was taking several steps to improve standard of education.

The minister said that Area Education Officers (AEOs) playing important role in monitoring the academic activities of the schools located in Islamabad Capital Territory.

Usman Abrahim said that AEOs also helping the FDE on administrative issues of the schools. Annual results of the schools are monitored and analyzed.

He said that reasons of poor results are identified and every effort is being made to improve the results. Schools showing good results had been appreciated.

The FDE conducted Centralized Annual Examination for Class-V and middle standard scholarship exam. Scholarships had been awarded to students on merit on the basis of results of these exams, he added.

The minister said that National Curriculum 2006 had been implemented at all levels in schools under the FDE and the new curriculum is designed in accordance with latest knowledge. It will help the students to meet the challenges of modern world.

He said that the Directors visit the educational institutions to check the routine activities in the institutions, core competencies of the teachers and students effective administration and schools record etc.

Usman Abrahim said that thousands of teaching and non-teaching staff had been trained in order to enhance their capabilities for betterment of educational institutions.

The minister said that academic councils are working in educational institutions for guidance of the students. Annual sports and literary competitions are held so that students to encourage their participate in co- curricular activities.

He said that teaching staff had been given incentives through regular promotions, time scale promotion and up-gradation and the ultimate goal is to improve standard of education.

Usman Abrahim said that teachers are encouraged to improve their academic and professional qualifications. All the Educational Institutions under FDE have been re-designated as Islamabad Model Schools/ Colleges in order to have uniform education system in Islamabad.

In order to have coordination with civil society and parents regarding performance of the students, School Management Committees (SMCs) are working actively in the Educational Institutions, the minister added.

Usman Abrahim said that all the institutions had been affiliated with Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad at Degree level.

To another question, he said that Boy Scouts and Girls Guides programmes are already functioning in all the educational institutions under FDE.

He said that Boy Scouts are involved in various social activities and community development progress under the guidance of Islamabad Boy Scouts Association (IBSA).

Usman Abrahim said that various activities are carried out under Girls Guides Programme in educational institutions of Islamabad.

Replying to another question, the minister said that at present 139 buses are available in educational institutions under FDE while 98 more buses are required.

He said that it is a fact that a number of government educational institutions in Islamabad have no transport facility and as per policy students are granted admission in institutions close to their residence.

The minister said that a PC-I for purchase of 20 coasters with the cost of Rs. 59.755 million through Prime Minister's Islamabad Development Package has been approved but the same could not be materialized due to financial constraints.
