imagePESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervez Khattak Wednesday said that the provincial government has decided the utilization of the surplus natural gas for generating electricity and its provision to industries on subsidized rate to resolve the problem of unemployment in the province.

Addressing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the chief minister said that unemployment is big misfortune for both the country and province. He said that due to law & order and terrorism has made investment infeasible in their province and all industrial units are closed. However, he said that they had search out a solution for it.

Under that solution, he said the some of the surplus gas would be used in industrial sector while the remaining would utilized for generating 300 megawatt electricity to all industrial estates of the province. He was hopeful that an agreement with federal government in this regard would be signed in the current month.

First, he said they wanted the construction of big industrial estate in gas producing districts of Hangu, Kohat and Karak and provision of 24-hour electricity to the industrial estates of Peshawar, Risalpur and Hattar. He said that Malakand is a tax-free zone and provision of cheap electricity could attract big investment.

The chief minister said they had changed the style of ruling, cut down the expenses and adopted simple life. He mentioned the establishment of the RTI Commission, Public Procurement Authority and Revenue Authority as big achievements of the provincial government.

Similarly, he said that the abolition of political interference has improved the performance of police and police station related complaints had registered decline. He said that he is sincere in bringing change in Thana culture and sought the cooperation of legislators in this regard.

The chief minister said that the provincial government had announced a poor-friendly budget and has allocated an amount of Rs.7 billion for provision of subsidized flour and ghee to over 4 million poor and deserving families.

He said that for industrial development, the government had continued long-term loan and good projects are being supported through the Bank of Khyber.
