ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmed Friday informed the Upper House of the Parliament that Punjab Police had released Sapna Rani, a Hindu school teacher, who was kidnapped from Peshawar by Zahid Nawaz.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Senator Hamza, the minister said that the Punjab government was making all out efforts to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
"The Constitution protects rights of minorities and it is also prime responsibility of the government to fulfil it at every cost," Shaikh Aftab added.
The minister said that Sapna Rani gave a statement in the Court that the culprit threatened her and forced her to change religion.
He informed the House that before kidnapping of Sapna Rani, both the culprit and Hindu lady were keeping in touch and almost 1957 times they were talking to each others on mobile phone.
Regarding the rape of Sapna Rani, the minister said that her medical report is still awaited.
Later, Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari asked the minister to direct the Punjab government to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
Speaking on a point of order, PPPP Senator Rehman Malik said that the government and minister concerned should take notice that some media houses did not pay salaries to their employees.
