imageKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that different mega development projects were in process to develop Karachi and make it more beautiful and commercially viable city in the world.

In a statement here on Monday he said that `Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has remained our coalition partner and even we are enjoying better working relationship with MQM at present'.

The Minister further stated that the PPP government is taking the MQM on board while designing, executing the projects for the development of Karachi.

He said that to provide rapid and low cost modern transport facilities, establishment of overhead bridges and underpass network within the city, efficient deliveries of safe drinking water to the citizens, maintaining cleanliness, launching amusement and recreational projects in Karachi were on the priority of the government.

The Minister added that some of the projects are likely be started very soon.

Besides, the strategy to create conducive and peaceful atmosphere for the people of Karachi and foreign investors in this metropolis was also under implementation by the Government to convert the city into a commercially viable and favourite city of the world.

The Minister said that the development outlay for financial year 2013-14 up to Rs 215 billion has been approved by the Sindh Government and added that PPP believes to develop all parts of the province without any discrimination.

He said that since Karachi is the capital city of Sindh and we are giving importance to its status.

While commenting on the ongoing campaign against illegal water hydrants to prevent water theft of upto billions of rupees and ensure proper water supply to the citizens, the Minister said that Sindh Government was planning to install water meters in the city for which recently an agreement with a Saudi Arabian company has been made, under which the AEC company has agreed to provide two lac water meters for Karachi.

He said that the purpose of such efforts was to secure drinking water sources concerned only for the citizens Karachi.
