imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who is also the President of PPP Sindh, has condemned former president Gen. Pervez Musharraf's action of November 03, 2007 to suspend constitution of Pakistan and impose a state of emergency in the country with a view to suppress and forcibly deprive the people of Pakistan of their democratic and other basic rights.

In his message issued here on Saturday, he termed Pervez Musharraf's action as dictatorial, cruel and condemned the arrest of pro-democratic political workers, lawyers, human rights and civil society activists in thousands.

He said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benzair Bhutto not only strongly condemned and protested against the November 3 action but also cut her foreign visit short, came back to Karachi/ Islamabad to stage a strong protest despite threats given to her by the then government.

Qaim Ali Shah said that it was because of strong protest and agitation by PPP workers, lawyers, human activists and civil society launched under the dynamic leadership of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that the constitution of Pakistan was got restored within 42 days of its suspension.

He said that it was the political struggle of Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari that saw Pervez Musharraf out of Presidency and it was because of democratic vision and sacrifices of Ex-President Asif Ali Zardari that today the parliament, elected by the people of Pakistan is strong enough to survive.

He said that it was because of the struggle and sacrifices of PPP that today democracy was strong, safe and secure and every citizen of Pakistan is now enjoying the fruits of democracy.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah vowed and re-affirmed on behalf of PPP and himself not only to defend the democracy but also to make the democratic institutions more stronger, to transform the country into a welfare state and make people prosperous, because PPP believes in the democracy and power of the masses.
