LAHORE: A number of CNG filling stations has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) against a decision of their safety inspections.
In their petitions, they submitted that Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the Explosive Department were both putting pressure on them by claiming their authority for inspection.
Despite paying fees to both departments, station owners are threatened with licence cancellation, they added.
They pleaded the court to determine the department which had third party inspection authority.
During the hearing of the matter, OGRA's counsel submitted that it had the mandate to inspect CNG filling stations under the OGRA Act. However, the Explosive Department counsel contended that law also allowed them to inspect gas stations.
At the stage, the court observed that OGRA was a licensing authority. To which, the Explosive Department counsel replied that OGRA could not issue a licence without the approval of the department.
Justice Ayesha A Malik after hearing arguments of both parties adjourned the hearing until July 31 and directed parties to assist the court on the issue.
