imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court Wednesday dismissed, as being withdrawn, a petition for disqualification of former MPA Farooq Yousaf Ghurki.

Justice Muhammad khalid Mehmood Khan was hearing the petition filed by Iftikhar Ahmad seeking disqualification of Farooq Yousaf Ghuki for having a fake degree.

Earlier, Ghurki's counsel Aftab Ahmad Bajwa arguing the matter pleaded the court to set aside ex-parte order passed on March 20 for disqualification of the respondent ( Farooq Yousaf Ghurki) as his client had valid BA degree. The counsel also submitted relevant documents for the purpose.

The petitioner told the court that he had no objection, if the court set aside ex-parte judgement. The petitioner also submitted that he wanted to withdraw his petition.

However, the court expressed annoyance on the situation and ordered to impose a fine of Rs 200,000 on petitioner for withdrawing the petition. But,later, the court converted the fine into a donation to Lahore high Court Bar Association dispensary, on request of the counsel.

The court set aside the ex-parte order and dismissed petition, as being withdrawn.

Iftikhar Ahmad, a voter of PP-159, through his petition had sought directions for disqualification of MPA Farooq Yousaf Ghurki.

He submitted that the respondent MPA was elected from PP- 159 in 2008 general elections. However, the MPA presented a Bogus BA degree to the election commission for contesting the elections, he alleged.

The petitioner pleaded that the respondent should be disqualified because he deceived EC by presenting bogus degree.
