ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take immediate action against the elements who were threatening the witnesses in multi-billion OGRA scam.
The court also directed the Director General NAB Subah Saddiq to ensure his presence during the next hearing.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussan resumed the hearing in the multi-billion rupees corruption by the former chairman OGRA and his bringing back to country from the UAE.
During the course of proceeding, Deputy Prosecutor General NAB informed the court that DG NAB was in the United Kingdom nowadays to attend his son's convocation ceremony and would return to country after two weeks.
Justice Jawwad remarked that what kind of convocation was that which would take two weeks time and directed to call him back to appear before the bench in the next hearing.
He further stated NAB seems to be very active in the recovery of a case where there is a corruption of only 160,000 rupees while it is showing lethargic attitude in recovering money worth billion of rupees in OGRA scandal.
Justice Khilji remarked that NAB was failed in providing any protection to the witnesses even after two years. The bench directed the NAB to provide protection to the witnesses adjourned the hearing till March 25.
