imageMULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to over 12.915 million bales of cotton or 12,915,585 bales have reached ginneries across Pakistan as of May 1 showing a shortfall by 12.81 per cent compared to corresponding period last year.

According to fortnightly report of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) issued here Friday, out of the total arrivals, 12.912 million bales of cotton have been converted into bales so far.

Ginneries in Punjab recorded arrival of 9.508 million bales and of them 9.506 million bales were ginned. Arrivals in Punjab recorded a shortfall by 21.63 per cent.

Sindh ginneries recorded arrival of 3.407 million bales and of them 3.405 million were ginned. Ginneries in Sindh recorded a surge in arrivals by 27.05 per cent as compared to corresponding period last year.

Textile mills have bought 12.162 million bales while exporters bought 353,345 bales. The total bales sold out so far were calculated at 12.515 million bales.

Around 399,919 bales were still lying with ginneries as unsold stock.

Sanghar district maintained its reputation of being on top of the list with regard to arrivals of bales recorded at 1.343 million bales.

Bahawalnagar district secured the second berth with arrivals recorded at 1.211 million bales. Bahawalpur secured third place with arrivals of 1.113 million bales while Rahim Yar Khan took the fourth position with 1.059 million bales.
