  ISLAMABAD: Excessive use of lipstick is harmful and may cause many skin related problems including cancer in women. According to a report of a private television channel,a women consumes aproximately three kgs of lipstick while drinking and eating in their daily routine and these dangerous chemicals cause cancer while entering the human body. Lipsticks contain chemicals such as Coaltar and lead which makes human body vulnerable different diseases particularly cancer,it added. Coaltar is a carcinogen that is linked to fertility issues as well as to allergies and skin irritations while health problems associated with lead ingestion are brain damage and behavior abnormalities to new borns. Lead is very dangerous for pregnant women and children under the age of six years old.   KARACHI: Administrator, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that the number of mouth cancer patients rising to an alarming proportion due to use of gutka and mainpuri in the metropolis. This he said while addressing as chief guest at a seminar 'oral cancer and dental diseases' held here Thursday at Medical & Dental College (KMDC). He said that the government has imposed ban on the use of Gutkha so that the people could be saved from the harmful disease. He said that new technology was being used in KMDC for treatment of dental diseases and new equipment were purchased for this purpose.   PARIS: Anti-tobacco laws in several European countries prompted many smokers to ban smoking at home and to cut their cigarette consumption, according to a study reported in the journal Tobacco Control on Tuesday. Doctors pored over a survey into smoking habits in France, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands, both before and after bans on smoking in the workplace, restaurants and bars took effect in the last decade. The trends in those countries were compared with Britain, which at the time did not have smoke-free legislation. After the laws took effect, the percentage of smokers who banned all smoking at home rose by 17 percent in France, 25 percent in Ireland, 28 percent in the Netherlands and 38 percent in Germany, the study found.   WELLINGTON: New Zealand health authorities have admitted on Monday, they overreacted to an influenza scare on a flight from Japan by quarantining the plane on the tarmac at Auckland airport for several hours. The Air New Zealand flight from Tokyo was isolated after it landed Monday morning when the airline informed health officials that about 60 Japanese students were displaying flu-like symptoms. The Auckland Regional Public Health Service put local hospitals on standby for mass patient admissions, as medical teams in biohazard suits entered the Boeing 777-200 to examine the sick passengers. They were eventually allowed to disembark after about three hours when it was determined that, while some had colds, they had been immunised against flu and did not have the virus.   WASHINGTON: A senior executive of the breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure has resigned after a public outcry over the group's decision to cut funding to women's health organization Planned Parenthood. Karen Handel, a Republican who once ran for governor of Georgia on a platform calling for defunding of Planned Parenthood, stepped down from her role as the top US breast cancer charity's senior vice president for public policy and chief lobbyist, the organization said on Tuesday. "I have known Karen for many years, and we both share a common commitment to our organization's lifelong mission, which must always remain our sole focus," Komen founder Nancy Brinker said in a statement.
