LAHORE: Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab issued notices to 110 polluter industrial units on Friday.

EPD sources said that six squads were constituted last week in view of increasing cases of environmental pollution which was causing health hazards.

The sources said industries were issued an environmental approval with certain conditions to enure that there was no negative impact on the environment and National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) were followed strictly.

Sources further said that a special cell had also been established at EPD head office where all the squads would submit their survey reports and propose action against polluters on daily basis. "Based on the nature of impact that the industries have on the the environment, the cell will decide legal action under section 16 of Punjab Environmental Protection (Amendment) Act, 2012."told the sources.

The squads will inspect in total eighteen categories of industries including those manufacturing batteries, chemicals,chip/staw board, cold storage, electric transformers, foundry products, G.I pipes, fertilizers, iron and steel re-rolling mills, marble industries, paints and varnisher, paper and paper board, pesticides and insecticides, poultry feed, solvent oil extraction tannery, textile processing and vegetable ghee and cooking oil,sources added.
