imageISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has so far issued 35 licences for setting up LPG Aut-Refueling stations in different parts of the country and 18 more applicatioins are under process, official sources said Thursday.

"The licneces have been issued for construction of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) stations at the sites co-located with the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) outlets," they told APP.

They said the licences were awarded after fulfilment of all codal formalities, requirements and verification of the construction site by the third party inspectors in accordance with LPG Rules 2001 and Regulatory Framework.

The sources informed that LPG stations could only be set-up on roads or highways having minimum width of 60 feet, which was the criterion for issuance of no-objection certificate for the fuel outlets.

They expressed confidence that the licences would help improve supply and distribution of LPG especial in witner season, besides creating more job opportunities in the sector.

Talking to APP, Chairman All Pakistan LPG Distribution Association Irfan Khokhar suggested that the government should also promote establishiment of LPG-air mix plants across the country to bridge the gap between demand and supply of energy.

Describing the commodity one of the most environment friendly fuel, he said "LPG is cleaner in burning than petrol, diesel, wood, coal and fuel oil, which can be ued for heating, cooking and in vehicles."

Currently, over 40,000 homes and 10,000 motorists are using LPG, he added.
