imageKARACHI: Pakistan Railways' goods train operation is going ahead successfully and with the arrival of locomotives from China by the end of this year, the number of freight trains would be increased from current 10 to 15.

This was stated by the chairperson of Pakistan Railways, Ms. Parveen Agha at a meeting at the DS Office here on Saturday.

DS Karachi, Nisar Ahmed Memon, DDS, Ms. Fauzia, DCO Karachi, Nasir Nazeer also attended the meeting which reviewed the performance of PR Karachi Division.

Ms. Agha also pointed out that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is going on at a faster pace.

She pointed said that China is also cooperating with us for improvement the system of Pakistan Railways. The work for upgrading the railways track from Karachi to Peshawar would commence towards the end of next month.

Later, Ms. Agha visited the Port Qasim Marshalling Yard at Pipri here.

Giving a briefing the DS Railways Karachi said that this project has been initiated with the collaboration of Port Qasim and that it would be completed by the end of next year.

He said that from this terminal, Pakistan Railways would provide coal to the power plants in the country. Through railway transportation of coal, by road it would come to an end, it was further pointed out.
