imageKARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced gas and condensate discovery over its exploration well located in District Sanghar.

A statement here on Monday said that PPL the operator of the Block 2568-18 (Gambat South) EL with 65 percent working interest (WI) along with its joint venture partners Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) and Asia Resources Oil Limited (AROL) with 25 percent and 10 percent WI, respectively has announced another gas and condensate discovery over its exploration well Sharf X-1 located in District Sanghar, Sindh. It said that this is the third discovery in the block after Wafiq X-1 and Shahdad X-1 Gas and Condensate discoveries.

The statement said that the exploration well Sharf X-1 was spud on April 18, 2014 and reached the final depth of 3,730 meters on July 6, 2014. Based on wire line logs, potential hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified which are under testing.

Initial testing in the Massive Sand of Lower Goru Formation flowed 42.0 MMscfd of gas along with 199 bbl/d condensate at 64/64 choke size, thus confirming the presence of commercial quantities of natural gas and condensate at Sharf X-1.

Two additional zones have been identified that will be tested later, resulting in an expected cumulative production of 60 MMscfd, which translates into approximately 7400 barrels per day in oil equivalent and foreign exchange saving of USD 0.75 million per day.

The well is being flowed at different choke sizes to measure the gas flow rates, and the actual flow potential of the well will be determined after completion of the test.

This discovery will add more hydrocarbon reserves and also reduce the gap between supply and demand of oil and gas during current energy crisis in the country.
