OGDCL's Nashpa-IV project to add more gas to system

ISLAMABAD: The public sector entity-Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) is effectively pursuing its projects to meet the country's growing energy needs.

As part of such efforts, an official source says the company has accelerated its efforts and its Nashpa-IV project is in final stage, which would go a long way in easing the energy crisis.

According to the source, the project completing soon would contribute additional 4500 bbl oil and 12-15 MMCD gas to the system.

The source added, the government had started work on the import of LNG on a fast-track basis and the Qatar has agreed to provide 400 MMCFD LNG to Pakistan by November 2014.

There is no LNG terminal in the country and proposals have been presented to the ECC in this regard, which include Conversion of existing LPG to an LNG terminal for 200 MMCFD and establishment of a long-term facility through a competitive process for 500- 1000 MMCFD, the source says.

It added that import of 400 MMCFD Fast Track LNG Terminal and the 500 MMCFD SSGC LPG Retrofit Terminal are in process.

Besides, the government is also making solid measures to effectively explore indigenous hydro-carbon resources, amending and then implementing the Petroleum Exploration and Production Policy 2012 and implemented after approval from the CCI to encourage investment in the oil and gas sector.

Moreover, the PPL has started first-ever Tight Gas production of 1 0 MMCFD in Sindh and the exploration and production has made four discoveries which will add 135 MMC gas and 860 bbl oil per day in the system.

The source said supply of 152 MMCFD gas to 4 IPPs - Saif, Sapphire, Orient and Hall more - has provided additional efficient power generation of 800 MW.

The source said the PSO was currently supplying 24,000 M tonnes of oil as compared to previous supplies of 17,000 M tonnes to the power sector to address power shortages.

All fertilizer factories in the country have been provided gas which has resulted in reduction of urea imports by more than 300,000 tonnes.

PARCO refinery production capacity has been increased to 100 percent compared to 80 percent in the past.

And above all, the source added effective coordination with Exploration and Production companies has resulted in increased gas and oil supplies from existing fields. Gas production has reached 4.2 BCFD and Oil 80,000 barrels/day.
