FBR urged to extend IT returns filing date
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) President Zahid Attique Chaudhry has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the date for filing of income tax returns by October 31 after removing the technical issues being highlighted in the forms for the last two years. In a statement issued here on Monday, LTBA alleged that the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Lahore received 45 per cent less income tax returns due to a faulty strategy.
He alleged that all the staff remained busy in collecting nominal fines and ignored the efforts to achieve the real targets.
He said that income tax return filing date was not extended after October 10 but lacunas present in the return were also not removed. He claimed that during last financial year some 71,000 taxpayers submitted their return, which had reduced to 36,000 this year.
He said though any body can file its tax return with nominal penalty but lacunas being pointed out in the return form should be removed at the earliest. He said that he had sent suggestions in writing to member inland revenue on September 29 in this regard but the form was not corrected nor he received any response.
