ISLAMABAD: Butchers in twin cities of Islamabad Rawalpindi have started the preparations to increase slaughter rates on the advent of Eid-ul-Azha.
Butchers who are running their shops in different areas of twin cities have decided to increase their rates for slaughtering a goat from Rs 3000 to Rs 7000 for slaughtering a goat.
In the present days of price hike and inflation the trend for collective sacrifice is on rise, and the butchers are receiving a large number of advance bookings for slaughtering.
Mohsin Ali resident of F-6 while talking to APP said that the butchers are all set to fleece the citizens who want to get their sacrificial animals slaughtered on Eid-ul-Azha.
Last year butchers charged Rs2000 to Rs3000 for slaughtering a goat or a sheep; this year they are asking for Rs5000 to Rs7000, according to an informal survey conducted by APP.
For slaughtering a bull they used to charge Rs6000-7000; this year they have increased it to Rs8000 to Rs10,000 depending on size and weight.
A butcher at Sitara Market said they increased slaughter rates with the increase in prices of the animals. He added that if people can afford expensive animals, they can also afford to pay more for slaughtering.
Shakeel Abbasi, who is running his shop in G-7, said, throughout the year we wait for this day. He said they use the income they generate on Eid to pay for their children's fees, home rent and other costs. The rates, are in line with inflation, he added.
Pakistan Butchers Welfare Association Official said that "it is the right of butchers to demand these rates." He added that this is the only day in the year when all professional butchers come out on the streets to slaughter animals and earn money, charging according to inflation, which is their right.
