KARACHI: Small traders of Karachi terming load shedding a death sentence to trade and cottage industries of the city has announced protest demos if Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) failed to improve power supply situation.

All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industries (APOST&CI) Karachi chapter president Mahmood Hamid, vice president Usman Sharif and other office-bearers in a statement here charged that many city markets were braving 4 to 6 hour unannounced load shedding.

They said this extended power outage is resulting in losses of Rs 7 billion to Karachi traders and cottage industries daily. They said the cottage industries hardly run 10perent of their capacity due to load shedding.

They said electricity supply to mega city of Karachi having 20 million population is a very serious matter and this responsibility should be given to reliable and competent hands.

They demanded renationalization of electricity supply system in Karachi in the best interests of the economy. They also demanded establishing a judicial commission to probe into corruption and mismanagement in the power sector.
