ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the federal and provincial government to submit details about budgetary allocations for the inhabitants of Katchi Abadis (slums) and low-cost areas.
An SC bench comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Dost Muhamamd Khan resumed hearing in identical petitions filed against the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and police action in the Katchi Abadi of Sector I-11 in the Federal Capital.
The court directed the CDA to submit details regarding establishment of new Katchi Abadis after its decision.
During the course of proceedings, Secretary Law and Justice Commission Muhammad Sarwar, all four advocate generals and CDA's counsel Munir Paracha appeared before the court.
The provincial law officers informed the court that the provincial governments were taking cocrete steps for the provision of shelter to the poor.
The court asked the CDA's counsel about the steps being taken by the civic agency regarding Katchi Abadis.
Munir Paracha said it was not an issue for the Federal Capital alone as it an issue of the whole country. The final policy regarding the slum dwellers would be finalized after having input from the provinces, he added.
Later, the case was adjourned for four weeks.
