imageMULTAN: Punjab Governor, Malik Rafiq Rajwana Friday said that passion like Operation Zarb-e-Azb was need of the hour to eliminate menace of corruption from the society.

"Let us join hands with the passion like Operation Zarb-e-Azb because fighting agaisnt vices is teaching of Islam" Rajwana said.

He stressed the need of collective and coordinated efforts to eradicate corruption from the society.

He expressed these views while addressing a seminar titled "Root Causes of Corruption and Suggesting Measures to Eradicate Corruption from Public and Private Sectors" organized by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with World Anti-corruption day here at Multan Arts Council.

"Misuse of power falls in the ambit of corrupt practices".

Have nots are oppressed in the country. They don't have clean drinking water and health facilities.

We will have to listen to thier grievances, he said adding that one should be contented with what one has because Almighty Allah pleases with the person who is satisfied. About the mega projects initiated by PML-N government Rajwana said that no one raised eyebrows about the transparency of these projects while government has saved billions of rupees in these projects.

He maintained that each one of us should prefer national agenda over personal motives.

Rajwana appreciated the efforts of NAB for ending corruption from the society adding that there was always room for improvement. People have shun corrupt practices due to fear of NAB he said and added that young investigating officers of the bureau were working hard to end the corruption and he wanted to share his experiences with them.

He underscore the need of creating awareness agaisnt corruption among the masses and society should react instead of letting it go unheeded.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General NAB Multan Brig (r) Farooq Naser Awan said that the bureau was an apex anti-corruption organization of Pakistan charged with responsibility to eliminate corruption & corrupt practices from the society through a holistic approach. "Corruption is an insidious plague that has a wide range of corrosive effects on societies.

It undermines development and the rule of law, leads to violations of human rights, erodes quality of life, distorts markets and ultimately affects the economy, he said. Presently NAB Multan is investigating mega scams and cases worth Rs 17 Billion.

Since its inception in March 2015, NAB Multan was moving at steady pace and had recovered Rs. 27.11 Million and made 7 arrests, DG informed. NAB Multan has processed 3659 complaints and have filed 22 References and arrested 45 accused so far.

Addressing the seminar, VC BZU Dr Tahir Amin said that rule of law, social justice and review of state policies are some of the points which could make Pakistan a corruption free and prosperous country.

MCCI president Khawaja Jalal-ud-Din Romi, president Multan press club Shakil Anjum and others also spoke.

Earlier, an awareness walk was also held.
