imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that provision of modern and quality medical facilities to the patients was a mission of the government.

He said that there was no shortage of resources for providing quality health facilities to the patients.

He stressed upon the need of joint work with commitment, hard work and the spirit of service to the ailing humanity.

Provision of quality treatment facilities to the patients would be ensured in Tehsil and District Headquarter Hospitals and shortage of expert doctors of different sections in the hospitals would be met on priority basis, he added.

He said that a new foolproof plan of procurement and provision of free medicines in the hospitals had been evolved. Decision had been taken to give financial and administrative autonomy to medical superintendents of the hospitals for providing quality medical facilities, he added.

The Chief Minister said that he was visiting hospitals for ensuring provision of treatment facilities to the patients in the hospitals. He expressed these views while addressing a meeting, which lasted three hours, to review Punjab Health Reforms Programme, here on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said that a revolutionary programme was being implemented for improving facilities of public health. He said that 25 DHQs and 15 THQs would be up-graded within a year.

Expressing satisfaction over the steps regarding improvement of healthcare system, Shehbaz Sharif said that government was moving forward in the right direction for improving healthcare system, adding that the days were not far, when healthcare system of the province would be made perfect through joint wisdom.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the government would come up to the expectations of the people through utilizing collective efforts for the improvement of healthcare system. He emphasized upon the need to move towards the goal by taking positive steps continuously for looking after the patients.

No compromise would be made on merit for improving health sector, he added.

The Chief Minister said that a plan had been evolved with regard to keeping medical equipments in operational condition. Special attention would have to be paid on the attendance of the staff and availability of medicines, he added.

Shehbaz Sharif directed to evolve a comprehensive plan for removing the shortage of doctors of anesthesia and consider incentives for the doctors completing their study from government medical colleges in this regard.

He said that janitorial services would be outsourced for improving cleanliness arrangements and best firms of the world be selected for outsourcing other affairs of the hospitals.

Best officers to be appointed EDO Health in the districts, he added.

He said that the institution of DG Health would also be reorganized.

Country Manager GAVI, Hamid Reza Setayesh said that Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had taken such steps for improving healthcare system, which should be followed by other provinces.

He said that the measures of Shehbaz Sharif for improving healthcare system were commendable.

Director Health Roadmap Team Fenton Wheelan and officials of roadmap team, Members Assembly Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, Qazi Adnan Farid, Nadia Aziz, Chief Secretary, medical experts, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University and senior officials attended the meeting.
