HYDERABAD: The Sindh government is formulating a comprehensive policy for improving water supply and sanitation system, said Consultant Sindh Sector Development Plan (SSDP) Dr. Haroon Nawaz.
Speaking at a consultative workshop on SSDP 2016-2026 here on Monday, he said that contaminated water and poor sanitation were causing diseases.
He informed that Sindh Local Government department had inked an agreement with the United Nations and its fund for children - UNICEF for improving water supply and sanitation system.
Dr. Haroon Nawaz said, under the agreement, different aspects for the provision of filtered water to urban and rural localities and proper disposal of municipal waste were being reviewed.
He said that stakeholders, including divisional, district and local officials, experts and representatives of private organisations, were being consulted before finalising the policy. Assistant director local government Karachi Muhammad Azeem Channa, deputy director local government Academy Tando Jam Nasir Ahmed Siddiqui, Assistant director local government Hyderabad Salman Rahmon, Superintending Engineer Public Health Engineering Hyderabad Laal and experts presented their recommendations and suggestions.
